"I Am Not A Human Being" Video Review
Wayne is back and he's here to stay, his first smashing single of "I Am Not A Human Being", a music video carrying the same name as the album. He has released his eighth studio album while still incarcerated on New York's Rikers Island, serving the final weeks of a sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon. But gritty jailhouse music this ain't. "I Am Not a Human Being", which Wayne cut before leaving for prison, is a party from the start. The record opens with Wayne and Drake dropping ribald boasts over a jittery synth-swathed beat. "I am not a human/Shout to all my moon men," Weezy raps. You can lock up Lil Wayne's body, but his irrepressibly wacked-out spirit remains somewhere way out there in the Milky Way.
I Am Not a Human Being remains the top-selling album on iTunes and should make in impression in next week's album chart. That's a pretty remarkable feat considering that the artist is currently incarcerated. It's a testament to how devoted Weezy's fan base is (though his blogs and phone calls from jail haven't hurt).
By releasing "I Am Not a Human Being" digitally only, Lil Wayne appears to have done in his chance to claim the top spot on the Billboard 200. Next week, Kenny Chesney's "Hemingway Whiskey" is being released and Sony Nashville is projecting first week sales to be roughly 300,000 units, which surpasses the Lil Wayne first week projection. Still, the digital supply can certainly keep up if it turns out that Cash Money/Universal Motown underestimated demand.
