Husband and Wife Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa Collaborate for Charity Track
Singers and husband and wife Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa are contributing a song to a charity CD to help raise money for maternal and child health in the developing world. Though Bruce Springsteen is not credited on the CD, he did help his wife Patti Scialfa with all aspects of the record.
"He reminded me of this song I wrote when our kids were really little," Scialfa recalls. "I was a little ambivalent about it I felt that, vocally, it wasn't in my wheelhouse so I always just put it off."
Before recording the song called "Childrens Song", Scialfa rewrote it to make it more suitable for her voice. "We had both versions and I kept pushing for the new one, and Bruce kept pushing for the one that ended up on the record," she says. "I kept saying, 'I just don't that sing that that well.' And he said, 'Run the tape, I'll sing it.' He sang the whole song and it really suited him just perfectly."
Other famous musical mothers featured on the CD include the Dixie Chicks, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Lopez.
The CD is released on Mothers Day with $8 of all proceeds will be donated to CARE, a partner in action with Every Mother Counts. The record will be sold at Starbucks from April 12th.
