Heavy Metal Band Dismember Breaks Up After 20 Years

Band breakups seem to be on the rise these days.  In the wake of REM’s sad split after 31 years together, and Sonic Youth’s future hanging in the balance, the long time group Dismember is also breaking up.  Making their announcement to Blabbermouth, Dismember has confirmed after 23 years of making music together they are splitting up.  Through tough times the band did manage to show their gratitude to fans.  “We wish to thank all of our fans for your support.”  Dismember’s bassist Tobias Cristiansson was the one to break the somewhat unsurprising news.

Looking back the writing was on the wall months ago when the heavy metal rockers attended the June Death Fest Open Air Festival.  Addressing the crowd, Dismember layed out their plans to fans before performing.

"This will be our only show in 2011, and our first since 2008 and we feel extremely excited to hit the stage once again for some serious head banging. We will do a set that covers our whole career, from 'Like An Ever Flowing Stream' from 1991 up until the self-titled album released in 2008, so get ready for some serious Swedish death metal!!"

The successful heavy metal group first kicked off their careers after coming together back in 1988 in Stockholm.  Since then the group has gone on to release eight studio albums over their twenty-three years together.

Their last album was released back in 2008, a self titled body of work from Regain Records.  In the meantime it looks like several of the guys from Dismember, Fred Estby, David Blomqvist, and Tobias Cristiansson, are looking for a lead singer to head up the band Dagger.

"Our aim is to create real classic hard rock music the way we like it.  We have made a live recording with five of our songs in Gutterview Recorders Studio (owned by Fred Estby and Nicke Andersson) and now we are looking for a singer to front DAGGER.  The voice we are looking for is classic hard rock/heavy metal singing based in the rock and blues tradition.”
