"Gypsy" Video Review

Shakira is out with the video to her latest single "Gypsy", with tennis star Rafael Nadal playing the Colombian pop singer’s love interest. The song is the fourth release off her third English album "She Wolf", out now on Epic Records. With a hint of tribal clapping added to the chorus and a touch of spangle on the Freemasons mix vamps it up nicely for the clubs.

"(The song represents my) way of living and seeing life. I've been on the road since I was very young, so that's where the gypsy metaphor comes from", comments Shakira on the song.

The music video was directed by Jaume de Laiguana in Barcelona. There are two version of the video, one is "Gypsy" and second is "Gitana", which is actually the spanish version of the song.

About the video, Shakira states that "I chose Nadal for the video because I identify with him". "Shooting this video with Rafa was a great experience, he is very sweet and made it easy and fun,” said Shakira. “He and I have so much in common -- starting out so young in our respective careers and traveling the world -- I felt this would translate the spirit of the lyrics in the song and I was thrilled he wanted to be a part of it. Rafael Nadal said "It has been a great experience and I had a lot of fun doing it. I had some time in between tournaments and preparation and could not miss this opportunity", commented Rafael Nadal of his role in the video. "Shakira, as always, was spectacular. Working with a woman as charming as her, well, it makes it a lot easier to tell the truth. It was great, very easy, she's really sweet and that always makes the hours go by faster".

Shakira mentioned, "I thought that maybe I needed someone I could in some way identify with. And Rafael Nadal is a person who has been totally committed to his career since he was very young, since he was 17, I believe".
