I was so excited when I got that call... The Apollo was more more than just a theater.. Gladys Knight To Perform At Apollo Theatre

Gladys Knight, the soul legend, is all set to give a performance on the first float of the fabled Apollo Theatre. This phenomenon will take place at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 25th in New York.

The 75 year old "Midnight Train to Georgia" singer was first inducted into Apollo's Hall of Fame in the year 2006. In the 3 hour long (and 3 mile long) parade the singer will be singing festive tunes throughout.

"I was so excited when I got that call... The Apollo was more more than just a theater; they were mentors for us. They taught us things. I love the Apollo," said Knight.

The Apollo is also known as 'the Soul of American Culture'. It has hosted the talent contest Amateur Night almost each Wednesday night from the year 1934 at the historic theater of Harlem, N.Y. It is responsible for launching the careers of legendary singers like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight, Smokie Robinson, the Isley Brothers, D'Angelo, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, James Brown and Alicia Keys, among others.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the renowned theatre, Lianah Sta. Ana will also be performing alongside Gladys Knight. The 11 year old student had been the Star of Tomorrow Champion in 2010 during Amateur Night. She was also the first Filipino-American to win the contest.

Others who will be performing at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, 2010 are Jessica Simpson, Kanye West, India Arie, Miranda Cosgrove, Kylie Minogue and Big Time Rush.
