"Girls Who Play Guitars" Video Review

Maxïmo Park release a new single Girls Who Play Guitars through Warp Records on Monday 20th August. Girls Who Play Guitars is the follow-up to the hit singles Books From Boxes, and the Top Ten smash, Our Velocity.

Paul Smith admitted not long ago that 'Girls Who Play Guitars' was written about various discussions on PJ Harvey. Obviously PJ isn't the only girl who plays guitar, but needless to say, we're confident Smith and friends are fans. Maybe they did as so many sitcoms-based-in-pubs do, and made a list. Would Charlotte Hatherley top it? Or Courtney Love? Does Courtney Love even play her own guitar?!

Whatever, this is a nice grabby rocker and Smith keeps that cute little derby on his head throughout the quick-cutting performance clip directed by Leslie Ali, even while jumping around and jerking the microphone to-and-fro. The crowd-for-hire, meanwhile, bounces merrily along.
