Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts Teases New Single: "Lucky Day'
Nicola Roberts - famously recognised as one fifth of Britain's biggest girl band Girls Aloud - is now moving on to her second solo single 'Lucky Day' after the lacklustre chart performance of its predecessor.
The ginger singer/songwriter flew out to New York two weeks ago to shoot the music video and has promptly announced that the single will be released on 18 September in the UK, just a week before her album "Cinderella's Eyes" arrives.
'Lucky Day', co-written by Nicola and Canadian electro pop duo Dragonette, is an addictive summery pop piece that recalls the energy of the best Girls Aloud singles.
Take a listen to the official audio preview here:
Nicola's debut solo album "Cinderella's Eyes" is set to be an edgy and infectious collision of modern British pop with elements of electro and indie-dance. The project features the production talents of Diplo (hit maker for M.I.A.), Joe Mount of Metronomy, Jon Shave (Jessie J's 'Do It Like A Dude'), and Dmitri Tikovoi (who has co-written material on Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Trip The Light Fantastic" album).
The 25-year old singer, who has been a part of Girls Aloud for nine years, told Popjustice that it feels "bizarre" to be launching her own material.
"I was more than happy, really happy, being in the band and making records with the band... but it’s still so bizarre that I have my own record. I feel like I’ve been in a bubble, recording the whole thing, and only now is it, like, 'God, people have got to actually hear this'," she said.
Nicola has been hands-on in the production of her album, revealing that she has enjoyed more creative control with this record - both musically and vocally - than anything she had ever accomplished with Girls Aloud.
Comparing her experience of making this album with that of her past working with Girls Aloud producer Xenomania, Nicola said, "It was never the amount of involvement that I’ve been able to have with this. Brian [Higgins] very much has control over the whole record when you're down at Xenomania and to be able to have as much control as I’ve had with this, well, I couldn’t have done it at Xenomania."
She also stated that she was determined to sing "out loud" on her album, a stark contrast to the soft tone she was often asked to sing in on Girls Aloud's records.
"I felt like Brian made me sing so quietly all the time. I think he just preferred that tone. But I didn't want a whole record of that!"
Nicola Roberts will release her eagerly anticipated solo album "Cinderella's Eyes" in the UK on 26 September.
