Reportedly, Geri Halliwell, the former member of the now disbanded group Spice Girls, is planning to stage a comeback by making a new solo album. The album will be financed by herself in an attempt to restore her musical career.

After leaving the popular girl-band in 1998, the singer had forged a very successful career as a solo artist. But her last album "Passion" released in 2005 had generated a very limp response, by reaching only the 41st position in the UK charts.

After this debacle, the "It's Raining Men" singer took some time away from the industry to care for Bluebell, her four year old daughter. But now she has returned to the recording studio and has started working on a new album. The self-funding of the album by the star mirrors a similar move taken by Melanie C, her former bandmate.

According to a source, Halliwell, also known as Ginger Spice in her band days, wants to release the album next summer. She has started off by recording a handful of reworked covers as big dance tracks. Geri wanted to appeal to a music label, but the self-funded solo career of Melanie Chisholm seemed like a perfect example to her.

The source further said, "She has been texting all of her friends - including Victoria and David Beckham- asking for their favorite tracks for her to record."
