Full Video for Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” Comes Out
Before Prism hit stores in the fall and turned into yet another hit for Katy Perry, the pop star was involved in a campaign about her image change. Interviews had her speaking about being “darker,” while promo videos on YouTube featured her burning a blue wig (obviously symbolizing her Teenage Dream days) and attending a funeral.
Yet beyond the slightly more mature sound, Perry’s image hasn’t made that much of a change – not even to the point of saying you can “bury” her past album. The full-length video for “Dark Horse,” which came out on February 20, shows that she’s back to the same old bag of tricks.
The premise here is simple: Katy Perry’s alter Ancient Egyptian ego, Katy-Patra, is looking for a man. But those who attempt to impress her, instead, appear to get turned to dust.
Along the way, there are plenty of wig changes (although no cupcake bras just yet) and a tray of junk food. At one point, Perry dances on a pole like she’s at an Ancient-Egypt themed strip club.
While many accused Perry’s last video, for single “Unconditionally,” about cultural appropriation, with its geisha theme, “Dark Horse” essentially makes you forget almost entirely about it with its bright colors and overall bizarre-ness.
But even if the video is a bit strange, “Dark Horse” has become yet another hit for Perry, remaining on top of the Billboard Hot 100 and recovering the less-than-stellar chart performance of “Unconditionally.”
