Friends, President Obama Pay Respects to Heavy D
Dwight Arrington Myers, more famously known as Heavy D, passed away suddenly at the age of 44 earlier this month, sending shockwaves through the music world. A funeral was held for him on November 18, 2011 at the Grace Baptist Church in his native Mount Vernon, New York and many, including including Will Smith, Jay-Z, Diddy, Usher, John Legend, Q-Tip and Queen Latifah came out to show their love and support.
Diddy shed light on his relationship with the erstwhile “overweight lover” saying: "He became my friend. He became my brother, and I'm not talking about friend-brother like we cavalierly use the word, I'm talking about a real friend, a real brother. Somebody I shared my dreams and my secrets with, somebody that's been there for me at my lowest point, my darkest hour when nobody wanted to be beside me."
A letter from President Barack Obama was read by Rev. Al Sharpton: "We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time," read Obama's note. "He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers."
Heavy D is believed to have died from pneumonia.
