Foo Fighters Move The Earth - Causing Tremors
The Foo Fighters "moved the Earth" in New Zealand on Tuesday night - literally!
The rock legends have been taking their music to the world on their Wasting Light Tour. The Foos last week finished a whirlwind trip around Australia, taking their show to parts of the continent in twelve days.
Are these guys hard-rockers? Well, now there is data to prove it! New Zealand GeoNet recorded geological tremors during the FF's concert on Tuesday night that tied in perfectly with the music. During the performances, strong tremors were recorded, and during breaks the tremors went quiet. The biggest vibrations started at 8.20pm when the Foos took the stage, continuing until 11pm, and stopped as the concert ended. This data was recorded at seismic stations near the Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, where the rockers performed.
The concert was attended by 50,000 fans who packed the stadium. According to GeoNet, the first vibrations were noted around 7.30pm during the support band Tenacious D's gig. But the dials went berserk after 8.20pm when the FF's took to the stage. Various sources state that the vibrations were likely caused by the weight of the 50,000 fans moshing in time with the music. The Earth's crust must have stretched considerably with the excess load.
New Zealand is renowned for geologic seismic activity due to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but a GeoNet source stated that only the seismic stations near the concert recorded the vibrations giving geologists confidence that all the vibrations were entirely man-made.
The FF's are now taking a break until the next leg of their concert tour in Japan next March.
Although in February, fans are likely to see them as they have been nominated for six Grammy Awards for the album Wasting Light and for the song Walk.
