Fiancé May Have Saved Jennifer Hudson on Day Family Was Murdered
The world was stunned when Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donnerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were found shot to death inside of Donnerson’s home. Hudson’s sister, Julia, also reported her seven-year-old son, Julian King, missing but, unfortunately, he too was found murdered several days later.
For many people, this would have been a crippling set of events that could prevent them for going on with their lives. Hudson did take a break but the Grammy Award-winning singer/actress rallied and just a few short months later, sang the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLIII.
For the most part, Hudson has remained tight-lipped about her family’s tragedy but she did recently open up to Ebony magazine to reveal that her fiancé, David Otunga, may be the reason why she is alive today. She stated that Otunga was in Florida and begged her to pay him a visit. She added: “That's one of the things that saved my life, because I could have been home with my mom then. He wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago. I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here. I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now. But I didn't know. He was just like, 'I'm going to this wrestling thing, and it's in Tampa. I'm going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.'”
Thankfully, Hudson’s life was spared and, since that fateful day, she has accomplished a lot. She has released two successful albums, gave birth to her first child (a boy with Otunga) and lost 80lbs after becoming the Jenny Craig spokesperson.
