"Fergalicious" Video Review
Fergie’s #1 debut single "London Bridge" did garner attention, but the raunchy sexual slang cheapened the entire enterprise, and ultimately the song reaked of sleaze. Fortunately, "London Bridge" is not typical of most of Fergie’s album The Dutchess. The new jet-fueled single "Fergalicious" is more typical, and a reason to look forward to more singles digging deeper into the album’s riches.
"Fergalicious" kicks off with racing synthesized strings courtesy Afrorican’s "Give It All You Got" before breaking down into a rap interpolated from JJ Fad’s "Supersonic." It’s irresistible and within 30 seconds you’re hooked for the rest of the song. Fellow Black Eyed Pea will.i.am adds in his own spritely salute to a d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s Fergie. It’s a sassy, fluffy party tune that should be lighting up pop radio within weeks.
Fergie and will.i.am honor some of the tastiest bits of 80’s and 90’s rap in "Fergalicious" while still sounding contemporary. This is what the Black Eyed Peas do at their best, and Fergie is moving forward with the formula.
