Fans Injured at OMD Show at the South By Southwest Music Festival
According to Kxan.com, a number of South by Southwest festival goers were injured when a boom mike collapsed during OMDs set while they were performing at the Stubbs venue. Injuries are thought to be minor, though four people were taken to the University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment.
A record company rep Scott Shumaker, told a Billboard.com: "One man walked out with a large gash across his head, followed by another man escorted by police. It appeared that at least six-seven people needed medical attention, and at least two people were carried out on stretchers."
Fans were not disappointed as the set from OMD was delayed and not cancelled while the injured fans were attended to.
The South by Southwest musical festival (SXSW), is a prestigious festival which is held every year in Austin, Texas, in the USA. It runs for 10 days and encompasses film and interactivity as well as music. The music side of the festival is held for the last five days of the event, and features a good mix of new, current, and popular established artists. Incidents such as the stage sets collapsing are rare.
Unlike European festivals which are often staged in big fields the SXSW is staged around streets in Austin, with different bands playing at different venues. Music carries on well into the night. OMD started playing at 1.0am in the morning.
OMD are a British band that formed in the 1970s and play a mix of pop and electronic music.
