Fan Footage Forms Latest Above & Beyond YouTube Video
Why has EDM turned into such a strong mainstream force? Even if you can’t feel the beat, the latest video for Above & Beyond TV – a YouTube channel showcasing footage from the eponymous DJ trio – shows the power of fans is a significant driving factor.
Released today, “Above & Beyond TV – Episode 27,” also called “Group Therapy LA 2012,” splices together footage fans shot of the group’s three-day run at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium in May. While the fan perspective has been done before (Depeche Mode documentary 101 is a paradigm), “Group Therapy LA 2012” has the shaky cell phone camera authenticity of the YouTube era. This isn’t a professional following fans around; the concertgoers, themselves, capture the pre-show and performance without outside interference.
“Group Therapy LA 2012” opens with a message from Above & Beyond: “We asked you to film your own unique #GroupTherapyLA experience and share it with us. This is your film.” From here, the six-minute video segues into narration of fans dispersed with footage of Los Angeles. Over the minutes, the viewer is introduced to the fervency and devotion Above & Beyond fans have for the trio and to the excitement all feel for the performance.
The Los Angeles performances are touched on briefly at the halfway point. This video, instead, displays Above & Beyond’s close relationship with and appreciation for their fans. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it, see “Group Therapy LA 2012” below:
In June, Above & Beyond thanked their fans with a video featuring footage of their Group Therapy tour, called “Small Moments Like These.” Following in July, the video for their latest single “On My Way To Heaven” dropped. If you have not caught the trio in action, they have three more North American tour dates: the Electric Zoo festival on August 31 and September 1 in New York and September 2 in El Paso, Tex.
