EXCLUSIVE Interview with Emine Sari only for KOvideo, a Touching Story..
KOvideo: Hi, Emine. Please tell your fans something about yourself.
Emine: I was born in a small city in Turkey. I studied outside my own country. I started playing piano in my childhood because I liked the piano voice. I developed myself by myself, I started to learn foreign languages for my desire to sing foreign songs...
Having had a strong relationship with music since childhood, I believe that I can not live without songs. Also I am capable of singing and writing my own songs in six different languages, including Turkish, English, Japanese, Arabic, Russian...
KOvideo: Who is your favorite artist?
Emine: I like to take a few styles and smash them together to create my sound, with inspiration coming from Amy Winehouse songs, Tom Jones energy, Celine Dion vocals, Bonnie Tylor vibes... There's just too many of them!
Also Ella Fitzgerald is a huge star! She's brilliant on so many levels!
KOvideo: 3 things you like/ 3 things you dislike.
Emine:
LIKE:
- Sing in front of thousands people
- Play piano
- Babies
DISLIKE:
- Sing in front of the mirror
- Neighbor's loud music
- Negative people
KOvideo: What motivates you in your career?
Emine: I've always been motivated by my family. Without them, I'm nothing. One thing that I say to myself is "be good all the time". I motivate myself by saying I can always improve, which actually makes a difference. I always want to be number 1. I always say to myself that I can't afford to fail.

KOvideo: Can you tell us about your Japan experience?
Emine: One time because of my health problems ( blood cancer ) I was forced to go to Japan. I heard about some music competition in there and fold "BEST of SINGER 2008" contest in Japan. I became to work 10 hours a day with my music and singing... and I degreed. The competition is the Japanese version of "American Idol". I was the only foreigner who performed in the finals in the Japanese city of Osaka. I sang in the traditional Japanese enka style.
After the competition I went to a concert tour in Japan with the famous Japanese band "MATSUMOTO BAND" and later I recorded my first CD "IN FIRE" and after returned to my own country.
KOvideo: I belive I can be a kind of inspiration for people who live with cancer!!! You say you are trying to be "an inspiration for people who live with cancer". How did you overcome the disease?
Emine: I was diagnosed with blood cancer (leukemia) 10 years before and given 3 months to live by doctors. I am now healthy and cancer free! I'm not saying that everybody has chance as I did, but I know something that I want to share with people and if my "story" can help one day only one person, this will make me the happyest woman in the world! I want to let you to know: "If you try, you have a chance!!!", believe me! It's hard to write to someone with cancer, also it is hard to be someone from their family or friends. But remember, this is your life. It isn't your doctor's, it isn't anyone else's. If you want help, you'd better help yourself first. I became to follow my dreams, I never let myself think about death. What really made me stronger is the music!..and it still does! If I hadn't had it, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Heartbreak, love, bliss, tranquility, hurt, understanding... Music is my heart, my therapy, my release, my passion, and connected to my parents, who sadly are no longer with me! If I did't had the music, I would not be here right now. It helped me out during a hard time. I love to show people new songs because it truly becomes a part of their life. If you listen to my music, you can see me: you can see my heartbreaks, my happiness, my inside jokes, my memories, the people that I love... So I don't like to talk about who I am, you can understand all from my music!
Music really is everything to me!
KOvideo: It seems your health problems had a major role in your career. Do you think that the desease influenced your style?
Emine: Cancer changed my life. I'm grateful for every new, healthy day I have. It helped me not just to find my style, it made me learn what is important for me in this life. It helped me understand what I want and who I want to be. If you had the chance to listen to my music you can understand that I don't write my songs in just one style. Sometimes it's rock (this time I want to be loud and I want people to hear me), sometimes pop (this time I try to explain maby one of my experience) and sometime it's kind of blues/ jazz/ soul (my last emotions about my life).
KOvideo: How does it feel to be the European cultural ambassador?
Emine: A reporter asked Jimmy Hendrix how does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world and he replied, "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher."
So how can I answer to this question? "It is amazing!!!"
KOvideo: Ever thought in your career to give up music?
Emine: The way I am goingis stony and difficult (especially as a woman)! There are a lot of highs and lows and I am always asking the questions: "Am I good enough? Am I pretty enough? Am I too old? and all the other things."
Now I am getting closer to my dreams, but sometimes slower than I would like!! But I NEVER think that is going to stop me. Music will always be a driving force in my life...I will never give up!
It's true that when you feel you should give up, it would be the worst thing you could do!
KOvideo: What are your plans for the future?
Emine: I am about to finish writing my new album which will be out soon ( I hope). I am working on my new CD with great producers from UK and Turkey and we are planning to record at The Abbey Road Studios in UK.I am very ambitious and try to work very hard to get were I want to be. Shortly: Always do my best, develop myself and become a world star!
KOvideo: Please send a message to your fans all over the world!
