Eve 6 in Studio for New Album
Eve 6 – remember them? – is back in the studio working on a new album. Although still untitled, the release is expected to hit stores sometime in early 2012. At the moment, the pop-punk band is working with Don Gilmore, the producer behind albums from Good Charlotte, Pearl Jam, and Linkin Park. Gilmore also worked with Eve 6 on their platinum-selling self-titled debut.
2003’s It’s All In Your Head was the last studio album by Eve 6, and much like fellow pop-punkers Blink 182, Eve 6’s members split up, went to work on different side projects, and regrouped in 2008 for live shows. Since then, the band also signed with Fearless Records.
About the album, frontman Max Collins said: "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to make a real album again with all the right ingredients. In this day and age it's harder than ever for rock bands to record music with the care and attention needed, so we're definitely making the most of it. Having the original lineup and producer gives the whole thing an authenticity, and nothing but the very best material that we've accumulated over the last few years is going on this thing. We truly can't wait to get this out and into people's ears!"
The group also provided an update in mid-August about the state of recording and the possible sound for the new album: “We’re deep in the thick of making the fourth Eve 6 record and it’s turning out to be a doozy. No title yet, but the music is really taking shape and the album’s sound is becoming defined. We’ve recorded 16 songs out of a large selection of material, and it’s already difficult to think about cutting anything from the album. We had a lot of songs and ideas going into this one, more than ever before, so you’ll be hearing only the best of the best! We’ve gotten the core instruments recorded and are now doing vocals, rewrites, and additional musical bits and pieces. Each of us are playing to our strengths and bringing our own unique tastes and skills to the mix. We’re excited to have this album finished soon and be on the road touring in support of it throughout 2012.”
What do you think Eve 6’s new songs will sound like? Will they take the same path as they did in the early aughts or grow up and get slightly alternative, à la Green Day and Blink 182? For a preview of what could possibly come, the band released a video of an acoustic take of “Friend of Mine”:
