Enrique Iglesias Also in Talks to Join American Idol

Mariah Carey has already been confirmed as a judge on the upcoming season of American Idol and that’s about the only thing we know for sure.  Even Randy Jackson’s status hasn’t been clarified yet but it does look like Nicki Minaj is very close to securing a deal to join the show.

Another name that is being mentioned is Enrique Iglesias who, ironically, is now on tour with ousted panelist, Jennifer Lopez.  As one source explained: "Idol has expressed a lot of interest but no final word on either side yet."

Truthfully, Iglesias is the smartest option I’ve heard yet.  He showed his compassionate and professional side when he appeared as a consultant for Nicole Scherzinger on X Factor but, more importantly, he knows how to be successful in the business.

Sure, he gleaned some of his knowledge from his well-known father, Julio Iglesias, but this low-key, no drama singer probably has done better than people may realize.  Five years after his debut, he had sold the most Spanish-language albums of anyone in that decade.  Universal Music Group helped with his crossover to the English market by offering him an unprecedented contract worth $50,000,000.  To-date, he has sold over 55 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Spanish language artists of all time.  He also holds the record for most #1 songs on Billboard’s Dance charts by a single male artist (ten!).  He’s even been nicknamed the The King of Latin Pop.  All of that while keeping a relatively low profile.  What’s not to love?

Idol executives are reportedly also considering Nick Jonas as a judge for next year.
