Eminem Releases New Song “Survival” Through ‘Call of Duty’ Commercial
His collaborative album with Royce da 5’9 aside, not much has been heard of Eminem since 2010 album Recovery. Hints about its follow-up started dropping since last year, but even then, we just don’t know a title or release date. According to Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg, the still-untitled release is expected to come out around Memorial Day. We’ll have to wait and see.
But before that point, we got a taste of new single “Survival” today. Rather than come out through standard channels, the track produced by DJ Khalil appeared in a commercial for Call of Duty: Ghosts, with the video appearing on Eminem’s website. Explaining why he chose to debut the track through such a medium, the rapper explained to the press: "The song's about fighting back and it seems like it fits 'Ghost' perfectly."
Since that point, the song came out on Soundcloud in full and features singer Liz Rodrigues. Listen to it here.
Even though Eminem hasn’t spoken much about the album, “Survival” has been confirmed for the release, although there’s no word whether the track is the first official single or simply a promo.
Rosenberg has been providing periodic updates, recently saying: "He’s been working on it for some time. It’s safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we’re not exactly sure when. We’ve got some dates locked in for him to perform live in Europe in August, so we’re trying to see what else lines up."
Right now, the Detroit-born rapper is doing the rounds at European summer festivals, with appearances scheduled for Pukkelpop, Reading, and Leeds.
