Eminem Makes $3.3 Million Over Weekend at V Fest
Eminem might have taken a few years off to deal with some personal issues but that clearly hasn’t affected his worth in the eyes of promoters.
This past weekend, the erstwhile Slim Shady, took to the stage for two nights at Britain’s V Festival where he performed fifty songs for the massive crowd. The set list included early hits like “Stan” and “My Name Is” as well as new music from his 2010 album, 'Recovery'. The appearance marked the first time Eminem has performed live in the UK so far this year. To add to the star power during his set, Rihanna, who had been on-stage for more than an hour before Eminem went on, joined him to perform their hit collaboration “Love the Way You Lie.”
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, was reportedly paid £2 million or $3.3 million US dollars which works out to $66,000 per song. Not a bad gig! Rihanna was also well paid, earning $825,000 per night.
While that is definitely a hefty sum of money, there are several reasons why it’s completely justified. The first is that Eminem actually showed up and did his job. There are too many reports out there of artists showing up for appearances drunk, unable to perform, even forgetting their own lyrics.
Also, tickets can cost more than $200 for the event which means that patrons are definitely expecting a good show. While the V Fest, which is in its 15th year, has a reputation for being “corporate”, it is also known as one of the cleanest, best organized festivals in existence.
Other acts this year included Wiz Khalifa, Bruno Mars, Duran Duran and Tinie Tempah.
