Eminem Announces a New Album – With a Baseball Cap
Some artists take to Twitter to announce a new album, while others reveal the news on the red carpet, press conference, or proper interview. Eminem, on the other hand, revealed such a tidbit through his website’s official online store over the past weekend.
His approach was extremely subtle. A baseball cap, styled like a Detroit Tigers’ model but with an “E” instead of a “D,” was printed on the back with each year he released a solo album: from his independent 1996 release to 2013. The product’s description read: "Side panel is dedicated to the landmark Eminem solo albums. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Marshall Mathers Foundation."
The rapper has discussed a new solo release on more than one occasion. In May, he told Hot 97 he had plans but was additionally working on other projects, such as Slaughterhouse. Last year, he put out Hell: The Sequel with Royce 5’9” as Bad Meets Evil. Then, more recently, as he was promoting the Slaughterhouse project, said: “I've actually kinda just started. I've been on the move a little bit too, so I've in between things, sneak songs in here and there."
A 2013 solo release would be his follow-up to 2010’s Recovery. In September, producer No I.D. additionally confirmed that he and the rapper had plans to collaborate together.
What’s your take on this approach? Do you think the rapper should have been more direct?
