Elvis Costello Advises Fans Not To Buy His New Overpriced Box Set Album

The veteran musician told fans to buy Louis Armstrong's albums instead as they represent value for money. Elvis Costello Advises Fans Not To Buy His New Overpriced Box Set Album

Elvis Costello today did a thing no business-minded musician would ever do. The English singer's latest album 'The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook,' which comes with a CD, DVD, a vinyl EP and a book, has been priced at $202.66, which according to Costello, is way too much.

Only 1,500 units of this limited edition box set are expected to be released but deep-thinking Costello is very unhappy with the hefty price his customers would have to pay for this upcoming compilation.

A message was posted on his official website, which read: "We at www.elviscostello.com find ourselves unable to recommend The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook as the price appears to be either a misprint or a satire."

Instead of paying over the odds for his Spinning Songbook, Costello told his fans that they'll be better off buying collections of Louis Armstrong, who according to the 'Less Than Zero' crooner was a far better musician than him.

"If you want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we suggest, Ambassador Of Jazz -- a cute little imitation suitcase containing ten re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived – Louis Armstrong," Costello continued in his post.

For those fans who still want to buy his new album, the 57-year old had another piece of advice. He said that prices will go down significantly in 2012, which would be the ideal time to go for The Spinning Songbook.

"If you should still want the component items in the above mentioned elaborate hoax, they will be available separately at a more affordable price in the New Year, unless you are one of those pirates who imagines they are evangelists or that other people’s rights absolve their own thievery, in which case this is between you and your dim conscience," he added.
