Ellie Goulding Releases New Single "Explosions"
Even with her sophomore release just days away from hitting stores, Ellie Goulding just dropped a fourth single off Halcyon. The track, titled “Explosions,” is one of Goulding’s slower efforts, especially when compared to her more dance floor-friendly singles like “Starry Eyed” and “Lights” from her debut.
Nevertheless, what Goulding’s debut showed is, the British singer and songwriter is more than a dance music plaything. Her vulnerable, lightly wavering vocals carry a track just as well as any dance beat. “Explosions,” contrary to what the title implies, is an understated track that pulls back the production wizardry, allowing Goulding’s vocals to shine on their own. If you have yet to hear the track, listen to it here:
“Explosions” is one of several tracks that Goulding put out ever since announcing her sophomore effort over the summer. Just weeks before, the video for “I Know You” debuted, featuring actors Dakota Fanning and Justin Irvine. Along with this, other Halcyon tracks to emerge included “Anything Could Happen” and “Hanging On,” an Active Child Cover.
Previously, Goulding revealed on Twitter that she and Calvin Harris were in the studio together, and the “Let’s Go” producer confirmed the singer’s statement. In addition to working with Harris, Goulding collaborated with other EDM heavyweights, Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia, although there’s no word whether their track made it onto Halcyon, which hits stores in early October.
