Dropkick Murphys Release Holiday Single and Video
If traditional holiday music, up until today, has driven you up the wall, the antidote, appears, to be the Dropkick Murphys’ latest single, “The Season’s Upon Us.” Rather than give listeners an umpteenth dose of the warm and fuzzies about getting together with family and friends, “The Season’s Upon Us” reveals the other side of the season – that is, the people closest to you are often the most aggravating and selfish.
The track appeared on December 3, with a holiday-themed video, and has since found the group a modest amount of success. The video, which can be watched below, melds the spirit of the season with the Dropkick Murphys’ usual drunken antics. Band member Ken Casey said to the press: “The other day it was number one on MTV.com and Rihanna and 50 Cent were behind us. Someone said they probably spent $200,000 on those videos and we spent a couple of thousand.”
He went to describe the theme, saying: “Everyone’s got a crazy uncle or two. Some people are the crazy uncle. I’ve probably been accused of being all of the above.”
While a holiday track, “The Season’s Upon Us” is a cut from the Dropkick Murphys’ upcoming album Signed and Sealed in Blood, expected to drop on January 8, 2013. Signed and Sealed is a follow-up to 2011’s concept album Going Out in Style. Although the Boston-based band considers Going Out one of the strongest of their career, they found it too restricting. Signed and Sealed, on the other hand, continues the same party vibe but drops the concept theme.
Long-time producer Ted Hutt worked with the band on Signed and Sealed, which was recorded at Q Division Studios in the greater Boston area. The album is being released on their own Born & Bred Records.
