Drake Talks Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and His New Album in Elle Magazine
Aubrey “Drake” Graham is gearing up to release his second album, “Take Care,” in late October, but before the album drops, he spoke with Elle Magazine about women, his family and his rumored relationships with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.
Although Drake enjoys success now, he admits that he still gets bouts of loneliness, a detail exemplified in his hit song, “Marvin’s Room,” in which he rapped, “I’ve had sex four times this week/ I’ll explain.”
“I used to be filling a void,” said Drake, a self-proclaimed one-woman man, to the magazine. “There was a point where I felt like I needed to keep the company of a woman every night.”
Apparently the void couldn’t be filled by Rihanna, with whom he had a brief affair.
“At the time it hurt, but she didn’t mean to. I’ll never put that on her. I was hurt because I started to slowly realize what it was. I guess I thought it was more. That was the first girl with any fame that paid me any mind. You spend days reading about this person in the magazines. All of a sudden you have this number-one song and you’re at some birthday party and there she is. And you’re just some naive kid from Toronto staying in some shitty-ass hotel who got invited to this party on a whim. That’s just how it happened.”
After Rihanna, many thought that Nicki Minaj, a woman Drake says his mother is in love with, was the next to steal Drake’s heart. The rapper denied talks of a romance, but hinted that he may have felt something deeper for his Young Money peer.
I don’t know if we were really pretending,” said Drake of the marriage prank he and Minaj concocted on Twitter. “I’d marry Nicki. I think Nicki would be one of the only people that would understand me at the end of all this and be able to love me.”
Despite being emotionally open about his challenges with the opposite sex, Drake was very succinct upon discussing his plans for the release of “Take Care.”
“I’m going to Vegas,” he said to Elle.
“Take Care” is due in stores October 24.
