Drake Releases New Single “Hold On We’re Going Home”
With official singles and tastes of tracks like “Jodeci Freestyle,” Drake has been dropping several hints about what his upcoming album Nothing Was The Same will sound like come September. However, the biggest surprise is the vibe of “Hold On We’re Going Home.”
Drake posted the track on his Soundcloud page on August 6, and you can definitely say that it’s different from pretty much everything he has put out so far. Haven’t heard the track? Listen to it here.
Drake spoke about his intentions in an interview with MTV, explaining he went for a “timeless feel” and that he expects “Hold On” to be a wedding playlist staple in about 10 years. He explained: “It’s me and 40 [Noah Shebib] just channeling our Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson production duo. Obviously no offense to the greats, I know we’re not anywhere near that — it’s just us kinda doing our thing, humbly attempting.”
Drake, as well, that “Hold On” veers away from the sounds on his most recent singles. He said: “It’s not ‘Versace,’ it’s not ‘Started From the Bottom.’ In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in 10 years or that people that are away from their families in the army could listen to. So I did it with the group that we signed to OVO called Majid Jordan.”
With the rapper/singer providing the details back in June, Nothing Was The Same is scheduled to come out on September 17. On September 25, Drake goes on the road with Future and Miguel in support of the release.
