Dr. Dre To Take a Hiatus From Making Music
Don’t hold your breath for Detox.
Dr. Dre announced to Fader TV that he will be putting music on hold while he pursues other business-oriented projects.
“I’m just gonna wrap it up for a minute because I’ve been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks,” said Dre to Fader TV.
Instead, he will work on perfecting his wildly successful Beats by Dre headphone enterprise.
“We’re gonna keep new and exciting product coming,” said Dre at the Beats by Dre store opening in Soho. “We’re trying to eventually be second to Apple. We’re really trying to take over everything with a speaker.”
“I started out as an engineer…I spent a lot of time on the mixing board first which I think gave me a little bit of an edge over the other producers out there,” said Dre of the reason why his brand of headphones have been so well-received. He said that he also plans to focus on building the careers of his artist-mentees, Slim the Mobster and Kendrick Lamar.
To the longsuffering fans of Dr. Dre who have been waiting for the release of the Detox album only to be disappointed once more, all hope is not lost. The living legend says that he will return to music—someday.
“I’m never gonna stop music. It’s like air to me. I’m gonna take a little bit of a break, enjoy some time with the family, until I get that itch to get back in.”
