"Down Boy" Video Review
'Down Boy' is the first single release from the YYY's new EP, Is Is. The instrumental blends a raunchy mix of urban-indie stylings and garage rock, giving us a taster of what to expect from the erotically charged Is Is EP.
Karen O gives her standard bluesy and soulful perfomance here. She is laid back in the verses and lashes out in the chorus.
The band’s attempt to capture and sustain suspense throughout the live video gives it a powerful approach. The video features some of guitarist Nick Zinner's most visceral riffage (and creepy keyboards). Singer Karen O shrieks and prances across the stage, dives into the crowd, and then, falling to the floor, very nearly demonstrates another meaning for the song's title with the microphone.
While “Down Boy” is as a song a few years old it is nonetheless a prime example of what the band has collectively grown into and it stands as good reason to believe that the remainder of the five song EP will also be fantastic.
