DJ/producer Andrew Bayer made a strong impression with debut album It’s Artificial. Now Bayer is preparing for his upcoming sophomore release with a lead-in single, “Gaff’s Eulogy.” The release, titled If It Were You, We’d Never Leave is scheduled to drop in spring 2013 on trance imprint Anjunadeep.

“Gaff’s Eulogy” has since appeared on James Grant’s Anjunadeep 04 CD and received the remix treatment from Ryan Davis.

While It’s Artificial was described as “sophisticated electronica” by Mixmag, “Gaff’s Eulogy” is a more personal, contemplative take. Rather than resort to the sizzling synths, big beats, and up-front vocals of many modern EDM tracks, Bayer bridges a low-key character with cinematic, expansive qualities on this single. Soaring strings are juxtaposed with more glitchy elements, creating a soundscape more at home in Alan Wilder’s post-Depeche Mode output than any trance compilation.

“Gaff’s Eulogy” was released earlier in December. You can listen to the track here.

Bayer has previously released material through Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep, labels managed by members of trance act Above & Beyond. Like other rising trance artists Shogun and Tritonal, Bayer hails from the United States – Washington, D.C., specifically. Taking a different approach from the vocal-heavy, arpeggiated tracks of his contemporaries, Bayer injects elements of idm and progressive breaks into his material. Previously, he has collaborated with other trance heavyweights BT, Boom Jinx, and SignalRunners.
