Did Jessie J Steal "Domino" From Another Artist?
All too often these days, a song gets really, really popular and then right when it’s beginning to fade away, we find out that it is at the heart of a copyright infringement lawsuit. This is exactly the case with Jessie J’s hit “Domino.”
The British singer, who is also a mentor on The Voice U.K. is being sued by Will Loomis of Loomis & the Lust who allege that she more than borrowed from their 2008 track “Bright Red Chords.” The suit also names Universal Music Group, Lava Records and Universal Republic Records.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Chris Arledge, issued the following statement: "Mr. Loomis never consented to the use of his song," the accuser's lawyer, Chris Arledge, wrote in a statement, adding, "We look forward to obtaining an appropriate remedy from the court for this clear infringement."
Honestly, after listening to the mash up from the two songs, I’ve got to say that it is going to be very difficult for Jessie J to argue that this isn’t a blatant infringement of the copyright laws. Check it out for yourselves and tell me what you think.
