Detroit Lions Fan Starts Petition Against Nickelback Performance
As a musical artist, you can imagine it’s always a privilege to be asked to sing the national anthem at one of America’s most treasured sports: football. However, Nickelback is likely feeling a little less thrilled at the prospect after recent events tainted the idea.
The Canadian band is schedule to play during half-time on Thanksgiving, as the Detroit Lions battle at home against the Green Bay Packers. However a loyal fan of the Lions’, Dennis Guttman has created a petition against the band’s performance, evidently wanting absolutely no association with Nickelback.
Taking to the internet to vent, Guttman says, "This game is nationally televised; do we really want the rest of the U.S. to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!? ... This is completely unfair to those of us who purchased tickets to the game. At least the people watching at home can mute their TVs. The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime."
Guttman is a 22-year-old student at the University of Michigan who has caused quite the splash. With several news sources picking up the story, it’s not surprising that thousands have supported his effort. The amount of signatures on the petition is quickly gaining momentum and is soon to have passed the 50,000 goal with a count of 41,010.
One angry fan signs the petition saying “I am a 30 + year season ticket holder with a vow never to be seen at a Nickleback show. I shouldn't have to choose between the Lions and Nickelback”.
With the amount of signatures on the petition getting higher, do you foresee the performance scheduled being change? All I know is I’m glad I’m not in Nickelback’s position right now.
