Deftones Chi Cheng Still in Coma, Family Considering Stem Cells

It's been four years since the bassist was in an accident but there still could be hope. Deftones Chi Cheng Still in Coma, Family Considering Stem Cells

Chi Cheng was in a car accident in 2008 and has been in a coma ever since.  The Deftones bassist is no longer in the hospital and his family is looking at alternative treatments that could be used to improve his health.

Although, the musician is unable to speak, he is in a partially conscious state and is able to move his legs on command.  His brother, Ming Cheng, says it best when he describes his brother’s survival as “a miracle” and emphasizes that Chi is “alive and kicking and he’s fighting.”

Ming, along with his family, believes that there is hope for his brother and, once his situation is a little more stable, wants to begin researching other options, including stem cell research, that they can try to help promote positive progress.

One problem is that stem cell therapies are not currently available in the United States and most people would argue that Chi is not in a position to travel to other countries for treatment.

In the meantime, the Deftones have moved on with former Quicksand bassist, Sergio Vega, filling Cheng’s spot.  The band have just released their seventh studio album, Koi No Yokan.
