Death From Above 1979’s SXSW Show Stopped by Police Captured on Film
Newly reunited Death From Above 1979 had to halt their show at the Beauty Bar at the SXSW festival, due to fans tearing down a fence which was situated at the back of the venue and allowed fans which were unable to get into the venue to see the band. In what appears to be frustration, fans tour down the fence to gain access.
Despite pleas from Death From Above 1979s Jesse Keeler, fans continued to enter the venue, and to tear down the fence.
Police were called to calm the incident, and they stormed the stage to stop the gig while they took control of the situation. Mounted police arrived on the scene. There are unconfirmed reports of excessive force used by police, including taser and tear gas use.
Death From Above were allowed to finish their set after the situation was controlled. In many respects this is what rock and roll is about.
The band were not orginally booked to play SXSW but put in a surprise show at the festival which runs until March 21st.
