Dawn Richard Readies Holiday Song, 'December Sky,' For Release
Formerly a member of short-lived music group Danity Kane and backup vocalist for Diddy’s Dirty Money trio, Dawn Richard has come into her own this year with such hits as “SMFU (Save Me From You)” and a mixtape entitled A Tell Tale Heart. Now, Richard is set to spread cheer with her holiday-themed song, “December Sky,” set to be released digitally on December 1. The singer said in an interview that the song was written in empathy for those who won’t be home for Christmas.
“A lot of people won’t be able to see their loved ones this Christmas,” said Richard to Rap-Up TV. “Whether they are serving in Iraq/Iran, in the industry, or working a 9 to 5, the truth is a lot of us aren’t able to make it home for the holidays. So this record is for them and anyone else missing their love—the sky and stars are a gift for us both because no matter how far apart we are, we are under the same sky.”
Richard revealed that the song comes from a personal place for her, as well.
“I’m not really going to be able to see my love during Christmas and I think a lot of people can relate to that.
Richard is currently working on her debut album, GoldenHeart, meant to be the first of a three-part series of musical offerings.
