“Dark Horse” Preview Casts Katy Perry as Cleopatra
“Dark Horse” – the Prism track originally released as a promo and then later as an official single – currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s expected to get the official video treatment, according to a 30-second preview Katy Perry put out on February 13.
For now, we have to contend with the brief clip put out this week. In it, Katy Perry takes on a Cleopatra role – aptly and predictably titled “Katy Patra” – and hints that the subject will be about someone “who will win her heart.” Toward the end, we get a view of Perry in purple Cleopatra-style makeup, sporting what looks to be a bejeweled grill.
The full video is expected to come out February 20.
“Dark Horse,” featuring rapper Juicy J, originally surfaced as a promo track in the fall, following “Roar.” At the time, the song reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and as a result, Perry and her team decided it would be the third single, with the singer officially announcing the decision on January 9 on Twitter.
About the track, the singer told reporters last year at the MTV VMAs that “Dark Horse” gives her sound a different edge: "It's got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavored background soundtrack to it."
