Daft Punk at Coachella? Don’t Count on it
Yesterday, much of the internet exclaimed in excitement over Daft Punk’s return. Following details of their album last week, a sole tour date – at Coachella – had been revealed through their Vevo page.
But by the end of the day, the good news proved to be short lived. Instead, a representative told Rolling Stone the French electronic duo are not performing on April 12 in Indio, Calif., stating: "Daft Punk is not performing at Coachella this year."
When Coachella’s lineup was announced originally, Daft Punk had not been listed. However, rumors had circulated prior about them joining. The rumors of a new album in the works, which began in January, made a live date at the festival seem logical.
Toward the start of 2013, a French newspaper reported Daft Punk had been in the studio working on a follow-up to 2005’s Human After All. According to the reports, multiple collaborations are scheduled, although no one aside from Nile Rodgers had been confirmed.
As of last week, the album appeared to be more than a rumor, with its title and release date revealed: Random Access Memories, scheduled for May 21. Currently, the album is available for preorder. As of now, no tour is supporting the release.
Random has been confirmed to contain 13 tracks, although no actual song titles have emerged. Instead, a commercial on Saturday Night Live from a few weekends ago gave fans a preview of sounds to come. Listen below. What do you think?
