Could Tool Frontman Maynard James Keenan be Writing New Songs?
Since Tool started talking about writing a follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days close to two years ago, fans have wondered when frontman Maynard James Keenan would put together the lyrics. After all, based on statements members have made, it looks like the other three are still working on instrumentation.
However, a podcast called WTF aired an interview on August 18 in which Keenan speaks about the progress for their fifth album. He said: “I’m gonna stop by the rehearsal space today. In theory, having beaten them up going, ‘Please give me music, please give me music, please give me music, please give me music.’ In theory, they have a CD for me today. They’re like, ‘Look, listen to some jams so we can get this thing going.’”
He followed that with: “I can’t write words ’til I hear the sounds, and I haven’t heard the sounds … I’ve gotta listen to the sounds and go from the sounds.”
On the other hand, Loudwire noted that this interview comes from earlier in 2013, and since that point, drummer Danny Carey talked about the four working in the studio together.
Keenan mentioned the band was still writing the music back in December. Do you think it’s about time the frontman started writing some lyrics so that Tool could get closer to putting their fifth album out?
