Common Has Three Projects, Plus Movie Planned for 2013
On January 2, Common stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to discuss the projects he has for 2013. Music wise, the rapper has an EP ready for the end of January, an album following last year’s The Dreamer, The Believer, and a mixtape – the first of his career, in fact. The mixtape arrives in April, while the full-length album is now scheduled for a September 2012 release.
The Dreamer, The Believer charted well for the rapper, peaking at No. 4 on the Rap Albums chart.
Music, however, isn’t the only project Common has in the works. A film called Luv is scheduled to hit theaters on January 18. On the late night talk show, he described the plot, saying: "It's a coming of age story for an inner city kid who actually goes out with his uncle for a day. His uncle wants to show him the good parts of life but he ends up teaching how to be a man and shows him the good and the bad."
At the end of 2012, Common was involved in efforts to free imprisoned activist Leonard Peltier. Henry Belafonte asked him to participate in a benefit concert, which was held on December 14, 2012. Peltier is now serving two life sentences for the 1975 killings of two FBI agents and says he was framed for their deaths. Peltier has appealed the conviction on multiple occasions but has since been denied.
