CNN Fail: Gotye Did NOT Commit Suicide!
You know, you haven’t really made it in the industry until you’ve had someone report that you have died so Gotye, you know you have arrived!
CNN picked up a story that claimed the Australian singer-songwriter had taken his life.
The news items was placed on CNN’s iReport program and said that Gotye died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The actual statement said: "At 4:32 AM EST, it was reported that Gotye had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. He was pronounced dead at 4:45AM, and the investigation concluded that the cause of death was suicide."
Can you imagine reading that about yourself?
Gotye tweeted his own response: "I'm not dead. #Pinkalbumtitles."
However, it was the response from touring band member, Tim Shiel, that was really comical: "it saddens me to confirm the news of @gotye's passing – he suffered cardiac arrest while flying a unicorn over a double rainbow. don't panic the @gotye world tour is still going ahead, with special guest Terence Trent D'Arby. Its what wally would have wanted."
Later, Shiel added: "ghost of @gotye just appeared and together we banged out a script for the pilot episode of quirky new sitcom GHOSTYE. just fyi i'm going to use 'its what wally would have wanted' to justify doing all kinds of weird shit in the next couple of days."
Of course, CNN promptly removed the story.
