Chris Brown Announces Release Date for ‘X’
Revealed over Twitter during the summer, ‘X’ is assumed to be Chris Brown’s last album. While we’ll have to wait and see about that, the rapper/singer has been dropping hints about the album, with the latest being the release date.
A simple, numeric tweet indicated X drops November 19, 2013: “111913!”
How’s that for being clear and direct?
Beyond this, the follow-up to Fortune is expected to be a return to Brown’s R&B roots, after veering into a dance direction on his last release. So far, singles “China Doll,” “Don’t Think They Know,” and “Love More” have been introducing listeners to X over the summer.
The release, as well, is expected to have several collaborations: Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B, and Kelly Rowland, and production from Diplo, Drumma Boy, Danja, Polow Da Don, Pharrell, and Timbaland.
Brown hasn’t exactly behaved himself over the past few years. Since assaulting Rihanna in 2009, he had run-ins with Frank Ocean and Drake, while a hit-and-run charge violated the terms of his probation.
Likely in response, Brown announced on Twitter over the summer his intentions to retire: "Don't worry mainstream America. After this X album, it'll probably be my last album. Being famous is amazing when it's for ur music and talent. I'm tired of being famous for a mistake I made when i was 18. I'm cool & over it!"
