What’s the recipe for American music industry success? Pair with Will.i.am, sing on a David Guetta track, and climb up the charts. At least that appears to be the strategy for Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole to break into the U.S. market. Cole already has two solo albums under her belt, and her recent firing from the U.S. version of the X Factor made her a blip on the U.S. pop culture radar. Working with Guetta and Will.i.am, however, may just the approach to give her exposure on this side of the Atlantic.

About working with the singer and Will.i.am, Guetta stated to Capital FM’s Rich Clarke: “I made a song the other day and it was such a good fit for him and his artists. We’re always in touch.”

As Cole’s manager, Will.i.am has been lining up the British singer with various gigs and collaborations, from music to screen appearances. While the Black Eyed Peas’ member is attempting to get her into films and on television, Cole is in Los Angeles recording her third solo album, a follow up to Messy Little Raindrops. An anonymous source told the Daily Mirror: Cheryl will be a top solo star in the US, if Will has anything to do with it. The man is so well connected, and he sleeps, breathes and eats music. He has a studio at home in which he is trying out new sounds for Cheryl. He wants the best and is very picky. David is an old friend and has produced some of the best dance anthems of the past few years, so it’s a good place to start.”

Cole is also recording a track with Will.i.am – or, more precisely, re-recording. Cole is re-doing the vocals originally sung by X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd on a track; while the song was originally intended for release on Lloyd’s upcoming debut album, it has since been offered to Cole’s. About the track, an anonymous source told M for Music:

“Cheryl loved the song from the start and didn’t think twice about recording a version after she was sure it would not be appearing on Cher’s album.

“There is no love lost between the two so she couldn’t care less what anyone has to say about her being offered the song.

“It’s a great track, so much so that it is being considered as the lead single from Cheryl’s third album”.
