Carrie Underwood to Star in TV Remake of "The Sound of Music"
Who doesn’t love The Sound of Music? It’s a great holiday film (it’s great at all other times of the year too) and the story is based on true events and is so incredibly heartwarming and endearing. Julie Andrews’ portrayal of Maria von Trapp was legendary and her innocence and youthful vigor turned her into the world’s most beloved nanny (well, unless you count her performance in Mary Poppins) in history.
Now, there is going to be a live television adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical and they’ve already announced who has been tapped to portray the beloved Maria – Carrie Underwood. While she doesn’t really have much experience in the way of acting in musicals, she definitely has the vocal chops to pull it off.
NBC chairman, Robert Greenblatt, said that everyone at the network “couldn’t be happier” with the casting choice for the three-hour show
Aside from her turn on American Idol, Underwood has appeared on How I Met Your Mother and in the film, Soul Surfer, which was about the life of shark attack victim, Bethany Hamilton.
