Carrie Underwood Not Excited About Husband's Hockey Beard
When hockey players in the NHL make the playoffs at the end of the season, it is not uncommon (in fact, it’s expected!) for them to grow out their beards. They refuse to shave until their team wins the Stanley Cup or is eliminated from the playoffs for superstitious reasons.
Country singer, Carrie Underwood, is learning all about this tradition the hard way since her husband, Mike Fisher, will be growing out one of these beards. His team, the Nashville Predators, are taking on the Detroit Red Wings in the first round and he’s determined to give the Preds their best chance by playing hard and proudly displaying his scraggly facial hair.
While at a promotional event for Olay, Underwood said: "I'm not looking forward to the playoff beard. [The players] all grow out their facial hair during the playoffs. So before they started, I told Mike, 'You need to shave close.' He always looks good with a little stubble, but it's probably going to get out of hand soon."
She kept a sense of humor about the situation adding: “I'm going to stop shaving, too. Just kidding!"
Underwood may not love the playoff beard but she seems to be enjoying other aspects of being a hockey wife. "Sometimes I can't watch, so I have to listen to the games [on the radio], and that's horrible," she said. "But I've ... gotta cheer him on even if I'm just listening… It's been a lot of fun, and it's been fun learning and the crowd in Nashville is crazy awesome."
