Bruce Springsteen Rocks The Roskilde Festival

Denmark's Premier Music Event Hosted More Than 200 Artists To Around 100,000 Patrons Bruce Springsteen Rocks The Roskilde Festival

The 2012 Roskilde Festival held in Denmark last week was another mind-blowing success, with more than 200 different artists performing, and a brand new stage this year for electronic music. Everything anybody could want in music was provided.

Some of the line-up included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa (leading the American rappers), bluegrass queen Alison Krauss, Bowerbirds, Julia Holter and tUnE-yArDs ... to name just a few.

The Roskilde Festival is a music event run in Denmark and is one of the major annual music festivals in Europe. Taken over by the Rosklide Foundation in 1972, the festival has since been run as a non-profit experience for development and support of music, culture and humanism. Typically during the past few years, attendance figures have exceeded 100,000 making it a huge event.

Many patrons camped at the festival ground if they stayed for the whole four days, while others came for just one day of music magic. Feeding everyone is a unique experience with numerous workshops and traditional Danish culinary treats. All that eating and food preparation produced a huge amount of waste - around 300 tons. Yet, guests helped with the clean-up in an urban experiment to help create a magnificent festival.

The humanism issue tackled this year was about asylum seekers and their need for inclusion. Most agreed that Danish society is willingly accepting these displaced individuals.

This year all tickets were sold out - 77,500 all-week tickets. On Saturday 5000 one-day tickets were sold. Around 20 percent of guests came from outside Denmark. It was huge.

All profits go towards charity, and this year the figure is expected to be between 8 and 12 million DKK (Danish krone), and according to Roskilde rules, the funds must be donated before next year's event.

Plans for an even bigger Roskilde Festival next year are already under way.
