Britney Spears Writes Angry Tweet About Glee Episode

Season two of Glee delivered a glorious tribute to Britney Spears and her contribution to the music industry. Britney and her fans were super excited to hear that the show would be filming yet another tribute to the princess of pop, however, when the episode “Britney 2.0” aired, the episode showed the not-so-glamorous side of Britney’s career. In fact, the show made light of the singer’s public 2007 meltdown.

Feeling betrayed by the show, Britney took to Twitter saying, “F*** glee.” She later tweeted, “Pardon my french there, but I hope u all enjoyed that! Back in a bit to Tweet with the West Coast. Xo”.

Britney’s management team was furious about the episode which they say blindsided them completely,    "The Britney camp had no idea this was coming. I can tell you that Britney's manager, Larry, is livid. He's not happy."

In the episode of Glee, cheerleader Brittany S. Pierce falls apart after she loses her place as head cheerleader of the Cheerios. Brittany’s disastrous performance of “Gimme More” is a reference to Britney Spears’s 2007 performance at the Video Music Awards. On the show, Brittany lip-synched lyrics to the song and stumbled around the stage in a haze, shoving Cheetos in her mouth until she collapses.

While it’s understandable that the show would want to take a humorous approach and make light of the Britney/Brittany connection, it is a little insensitive to poke fun at a seriously sad time for Britney. Considering all the hype that led up to the episode, it’s not hard to see why Britney and her crew would be taken aback and surprised by the episode. What are your thoughts on it?
