Britney Spears Will Sing Live During Las Vegas Residency
Since Britney Spears’ Las Vegas residency became official, questions have circulated about whether she’ll be singing live. After all, Spears has been known to lip sync for at least a few tracks during her performances.
Speaking with Billboard, Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph explained that Spears has been building up her stamina to perform live, not just with singing but also choreography. With her run expected to start in December, the Baz Halpin-directed show will feature 21 songs, with hits and material from her upcoming album. Britney Spears: Piece of Me will include 50 shows per year for two years.
Speaking about Spears, Rudolph told the magazine: "I've never seen an artist so pumped and excited. She's been doing religious vocal and choreography for months and months. So I'm waiting for this unleashed furry of rehearsal energy when we get started."
But quickly going to the subject of lip syncing, he explained Spears plans to sing live – although a backing track may be used: “No matter what anyone says, there's not a single artist who goes out there and does full choreography and is singing without a vocal track underneath them at the same time. It's physically impossible. We're just trying to build up her stamina and get her to a point where she can do as much as humanly possible. The idea is to try to get her pretty close to 100%. There might be some numbers where she's full out dancing with a (vocal) track underneath her, but there won't be any lip-syncing across the board on anything.”
Do you agree with him?
The interview addressed the recent rumor about low ticket sales (Rudolph claims VIP packages for the first 16 shows have been sold out) and Spears’ upcoming album. Right now, according to his statements, there are still five more tracks that need to be worked out and no title has been selected.
