Through a Twitter Q&A session, Britney Spears explained she is working hard on her upcoming studio album. Britney Spears Hard at Work on ‘Femme Fatale’ Follow-Up

Most recent news surrounding Britney Spears involves her judging role on the X Factor. Is-she-or-isn’t-she rumors aside, the pop star has been recording a new album, and recently, she did a question and answer session, via Twitter, with fans. Of course, there were questions regarding her upcoming album.

As an answer, Spears stated: "Working hard. Collaborating with some new inspiring producers. Really focused on my music right now."

Maybe “really focused on [her] music right now” is code for “I’m not returning to ‘X Factor’ next season.”

This instance is one of, if not the only, time Spears addressed her upcoming release, a follow-up to 2011’s Femme Fatale, but Elijah Blake, a producer who previously worked with Usher and Rihanna, provided an update at the end of 2012. Explaining Spears was exploring new sounds and textures, he said: "I would say it's definitely the 'unexpected' Britney in so many ways, in that she's playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres."

As far as other collaborators, Blake revealed the pop star has been working with Rodney Jerkins, who, if you can recall, did the dubstep-influenced “As Long As You Love Me” with Justin Bieber earlier in 2012. Would you like Spears to dabble in dubstep again? “Freakshow” and “Hold It Against Me” hint at the EDM subgenre years before it became mainstream in the U.S. For the meantime to hold fans over, there’s Spears’ collaboration with Will.i.am, “Scream & Shout.”
