Boyz II Men Explain the Concept behind New Album ‘Twenty’
Boyz II Men made their musical debut two decades ago, with their first ever compilation ‘Cooleyhighharmony.’ Since then, numerous R&B and pop music acts have come and gone but the Men are still standing.
To mark their twenty years together, they are not only releasing a new album that has been named ‘Twenty’ but their msuci has also been sampled on Beyoncé's ‘Countdown.’ They will also be making guest appearances on teen sensation Justin Bieber’s next disc ‘Under the Mistletoe,’ which will be released on November 1, 2011.
While all the feature songs is good news for the veteran group’s fans, their main source of joy this year will still be Boyz II Men’s own album. In Twenty, the Motown Philly-singers have packed 20 songs, eight of which are remixes of old material, while the remaining 12 will be fresh songs.
In a recent interview with MTV, Wanya Morris said, "Twenty is our latest effort. It consists of the span of 20 years of our career. It's been seven years since we did an album with our own music; it felt like it was time to put our efforts and our maturity and all of the things we gained through the 20 years on this album. We're trying our best to transcend time, but at the same time maintain our integrity and allow people to see the maturity as well."
While Nathan Morris conceded that they can’t be considered a bunch of enthusiastic, young musicians anymore, he claimed that they still maintain the original sound that put them on the map back in 1991.
"Music is who we are. Our concepts may be different; obviously, it's 20 years later, [and] we've grown. But the music itself is the constant. It's the only thing that has really kept us here for 20 years. The concept of music is still the same, but what we write about and what we think about nowadays is a little different. We're a little older, but the main objective is still all about love," Nathan explained.
Romantic theme is one of their famed specialties and Wanya added that they have tried to present their trademark love songs in a different style on their new album, which is scheduled to hit the US stores today.
