Bon Iver Doing Spring U.S. Tour
Just fresh off their Saturday Night Live performance, Bon Iver announced dates for a spring U.S. tour. Surrounding their stints at Coachella and the Sasquatch Music Festival in George, Wash., the dates begin on April 12 in Las Vegas and end at the New Orleans and Jazz Heritage Festival on April 27. Other dates are in California and Arizona. Their U.S. dates and corresponding venues are as follows:
April 12: Las Vegas, Nev. (The Joint)
April 14: Indio, Calif. (Coachella)
April 17: Davis, Calif. (Freeborn Hall at UC Davis)
April 19: San Francisco, Calif. (Bill Graham Civic Auditorium)
April 21: Indio, Calif. (Coachella)
April 22: Santa Barbara, Calif. (Santa Barbara Bowl)
April 23: Tucson, Ariz. (AVA Amphitheater)
April 27: New Orleans, La. (New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival)
May 27: George, Wash. (Sasquatch Music Festival)
With a critically successful debut, Bon Iver are up for four Grammy nominations – but are not performing at the event. Frontman Justin Vernon told Billboard the group was discouraged from performing: "We wanted to play our music, but were told that we couldn't play. We had to do a collaboration with someone else. And we just felt like it was such a large stage -- we're getting nominated for this record that we made. Me and Brian [Joseph] and a bunch of our f---ing friends and we were given accolades for it, and all of a sudden we were being asked to play music that had nothing to do with that. We kind of said 'f--- you' a little bit, and they sort of acted like they wanted us to play, but I don't think they wanted us to play."
On the subject of collaborations, Vernon may be working with Alicia Keys, already writing songs for the R&B singer. He said to Billboard: "I have a big idea to do an American songbook of the greatest women singers. There are so many: Casey [Dienel] from White Hinterland, Bonnie Raitt, Alicia."
A Bon Iver follow-up, however, could be a few years in the making. He explained: "I don't have songs written yet. I'm guessing three years. But it could be five. It could be only one more. It just depends when the songs come about. I sort of have to wait till they reveal themselves."
