Black Eyed Peas Have Launch Party for New Video Game
Although the Black Eyed Peas have supposedly called it quits, three of the group’s members – Fergie, Taboo, and apl.de.ap – came out Monday for a launch party for their new video game, The Black Eyed Peas Experience. But, the game isn’t based on rapping skills. Instead, players follow dance routines put together by the Peas’ choreographer and creative director Fatima Robinson.
Hitting North American stores on November 8, The Black Eyed Peas Experience is Ubisoft’s follow-up to last year’s Michael Jackson Experience. The game is available for Wii and Xbox 360 systems and covers 30 Black Eyed Peas’ songs, including “Boom Boom Pow” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart.” Players need to simulate as close as possible the choreography on screen; the closer the simulation, the higher the score.
Fergie, an avid video game fan, said at the party: "I was floored because of the new Kinect technology, where you don't have to hold anything in your hand and you can just move and it picks up your movements. That was a trip to me. Very surreal. And to have your own avatar – I mean, it's a trip to see how it really does resemble me. It is weird seeing yourself as a third person. I love the technology. It's a real experience and it doesn't feel forced. The Black Eyed Peas are all about dance and party, so it makes sense."
Taboo mentioned about the game: "It's an amazing, surreal thing. Me being a Mexican kid from East L.A., I never imagined I'd be playing the Superbowl or performing on Oprah. And now, having my own video game, that is the ultimate feeling."
With DJ Ammo spinning music at the launch party, the three Peas were joined by various celebrities, who played the game or danced. In attendance was 90210’s Justin Deeley, who told the press: "I used to teach spin classes, and the Black Eyed Peas was my favorite music to use. There's just something about the beat. And I enjoy watching them on stage performing. They are a lot of fun – so spirited."
